1867年創立。ウェストヴァージニア州モーガンタウンに立地する大規模州立大学。最も近い大都市はペンシルバニア州ピッツバーグで、車で1時間半ほど。自宅通学生以外の新入生は、必ず学内の寮で生活しなければならないため、新入生の約83％が寮生活をしている。モーガンタウンは小さい街ながら近年、様々なメディアで注目されており、「最も住みやすい街」「最もエキサイティングなスモールタウン」「最もスポーツの盛んな街」などに選ばれている。大規模大学のため、学部生が専攻できる分野は約178もあり、学生は自分の興味にあった学問を学ぶことができる。
