    • 1851年創立。フロリダ州立の研究型総合大学で、州都タラハシーに463エーカーの郊外型キャンパスを構え、パナマシティに分校がある。当初はFlorida Instituteという男子校だったが、州の発展とともに総合大学に成長した。ディズニーリゾート、ユニバーサルスタジオ、さらにビーチも近いという立地からエンターテイメント系の音楽、映画や海洋学、ホスピタリティ系の専攻の評価が高い。大学院はロースクール、メディカルスクールがある。教授陣のレベルは高く、ノーベル賞やピューリッアー賞の受賞者も現役で教鞭を取っている。
