1960年創立。ペンシルバニア州ピッツバーグに立地する都市型大学。特に演劇、美術を中心とする芸術分野、ジャーナリズム、マスコミ関係に強く、多くの卒業生がメディア業界で活躍している。ピッツバーグには美術館、劇場などの文化、娯楽施設も多い。学生一人一人の目標達成のために必要なものを提供することをモットーとし、学業面と同時に実社会に出てから的確に判断し行動できる人材の育成を目指す。授業で学んだことを実際に生かせるインターンシップ制度が充実しており、多くの学生がこれを活用し、就職に役立てている。実地経験豊富な教授陣のもと、授業は少人数制で行われている。
