1853年創立。フィラデルフィアから約32キロメートル離れたGlenside（人口約8,000人）に位置する郊外型の中規模私立大学。もともとは女子大学として設立されため、現在でも女子学生が約7割を占める。フィラデルフィアへのアクセスは良い。グローバルな視野と豊富な経験を持つ学生を世に送り出すことを使命(理想)としている。U.S. News & World Report 2007誌は、大学の海外教育センター（Arcadia's Center for Education Abroad）を大学規模での最大級の海外研究機関の一つとして評価している。
