大学の紹介
1954年創立。カリフォルニア州リバーサイドにある大規模州立大学。カリフォルニア大学バークレー校、ロサンゼルス校（UCLA）などが所属する「カリフォルニア大学（UC）システム」のメンバー。1900年代からある柑橘類研究所（Citrus Experiment Station）を母体とし、これまでいくつもの新種の果物を開発してきた。UCシステムの中では、州内出身の学生への教育に力を入れている地元密着型の大学として知られている。そのため、州民であれば比較的合格しやすい。通学生がメインで、入寮の義務も設けていない。人気の専攻分野は社会科学、ビジネス、生物学など。大学院レベルでは工学や教育学のプログラムが充実している。メインキャンパスのあるリバーサイドは同州南部にある人口30万人ほどの中堅都市。キャンパスは繁華街から離れていて、落ち着いた雰囲気。パームデザートにサテライト・キャンパスがある。
