1862創立。六つの分校がある大規模大学だが、メインキャンパスはオロノ市にある。キャンパスは山や川に囲まれた美しい自然の中にあり、バロン社のベストカレッジにリストアップされている。学生寮の数は十分あり、教員や学生結婚した大学院生などが入るアパートもキャンパス内にある。図書館の蔵書数は州で一番。人気の専攻分野はビジネス、教育学、工学など。アスレチックセンターは充実しており、インドアのプールやジム、陸上競技場などがある。大学の中に劇場やアートセンターなどもある。130以上のサークルがあり、スポーツも盛ん。
