大学の紹介
1881年創立。ミルウォーキー最初のカトリック司教であったJohn Martin Henniにより創立されたイエズス会系の私立大学。校名は17世紀フランスの宣教師Frances Marquetteにちなんでつけられた。1907年にUniversityとなり、現在は総合大学として名を馳せる。ミルウォーキーの市街地に80エーカーのキャンパスを構える。人気の専攻はビジネスと看護学。大学院のビジネススクールは全米ランキングにも名を連ねる。保健学、ジャーナリズム、法学、教育学なども有名。約12000人の学生のうち、7700人程が学部生で、うち6割が州外出身者。授業は小人数で、施設も充実している。スポーツはバスケットボールが強く、NBAプレーヤーを何人も輩出している。学生の割合は白人が約85％を占める。
