    • 1925年創立。第1期生560人が入学した翌26年に大規模なハリケーンに襲われ大打撃を受けたが、初代学長ボーマン・アッシュの強いリーダーシップのもと、大恐慌や第二次世界大戦を乗り越え、さらに戦後、大きく発展した。創立当初はリベラルーアーツ、音楽、夜間の各学部からスタートしたが、52年までにはロースクール、ビジネス学部、教育学部、海洋学部、工学部、メディカルスクールが開設され、本格的な総合大学となった。本学が位置する南フロリダ地方は、40以上のゴルフコースや500の公立公園があり、ビーチにも近い。自転車、ジョギング、ウォーキングの専用路もあり、アウトドア愛好者には絶好の立地だ。
