1958年創立。カリフォルニア州ロサンゼルスに近い郊外都市ノースリッジに立地する州立大学。州内に23のキャンパスを持つカリフォルニア州立大学機構の1つ。ハリウッドやサンタモニカ、ビバリーヒルズにも車で約30分圏内という好立地。「全米で最も近代的な大学」の1つに選ばれたほどで、広大なキャンパスには新設の図書館や芸術センターを含め100以上の建物が立ち並び、設備も最新鋭のものが整っている。学内の寮に住む学生の率はあまり高くないが、一人住まい用のアパートタイプの部屋もある。開講されている専攻は約60を超えており、幅広い選択肢の中から自らの興味にあった学問を学ぶことができる。National Center on Deafness(NCOD)という聴覚障害者に手厚いサービスを提供するアメリカでも有数の機関を併設している。
