1885年創立。ローマカトリック系の中規模リベラルアーツ大学。もとは男子校で1966年から共学になった。テキサス州の州都オースチン（人口約65万人）の見晴らしの良い丘の頂に立地する。約200万人の人口を持つ州最大都市ヒューストンまでは車で約2時間ほど。生涯学習を重視する観点から教養と専門のバランスの取れたプログラムを構成。学生たちが在学中に問題を分析、提案、決定するスキルを習得し、卒業後は社会に対し責任を果たし貢献することを目指している。
