1854年創立。マサチューセッツ州の歴史的な町セーラムに立地する州立大学。キャンパスは緑に囲まれて美しく、港を見渡すことができる。当初は教員養成の専門校だったが、現在は社会的ニーズに応えるべく幅広い専門分野を提供している。「学生の個性を大切に育てていくこと」を教育理念とし、学生たちが個性を十分伸ばすために学問・生活面において必要な教育を統合していくことを目指す。人気の専攻はビジネス、教育学、看護学、刑事法学、心理学、コミュニケーション、生物学など。学生の約97％が州内出身。
