1882年創立。ワシントン州有数の名門リベラルアーツ・カレッジ。ワラワラ（人口約3万人）のダウンタウンから3ブロックのところに位置し、キャンパスには1,500本近い木々があり、大きな公園のような景観。“Encounters”プログラムがあり、新入生全員が同じテキストを使用して1年を通じて授業を一つ取り、少人数のクラスで議論をして知的探究を深め、リベラルアーツ教育の洗礼を受ける。ユニークな専攻として修辞法学（Rhetoric Studies）があり、さまざまなアプローチから表現法を学ぶ。ユニークなプログラムとして、1学期90日間をかけて約8,000マイルの距離にわたり、草原、山岳、森林、渓谷など広大な西部の地をキャンプしながら移動し、実体験的に学ぶプログラム（Semester in the West）がある。
