第二次大戦直後の1949年創立。「ジョウェル（Jewell）」の愛称で呼ばれる小規模のリベラルアートカレッジで、カンザス州とミズーリ州の州境にある街リバティー市に立地している。U.S. News & World Report 2006では、質の高い大学としてベストカレッジのひとつにあげられている。人気の専攻はビジネスと心理学で、音楽専攻では教会音楽を学べるのがユニーク。教授と生徒の比率は1対14で、親密な関係を保持されている。広い敷地にフルタイムの学部生約1300人とパートタイム学生約50人が学んでいる。
