大学の紹介
1856年創立。メリーランド州カレッジパークにある大規模州立大学。当初は農学専門のMaryland Agricultural Collegeとして開校したが、後に州が敷地を寄付して、現在の州立大学としての素地ができた（いわゆる土地寄与大学）。いまではメリーランド州を代表する研究型総合大学に発展し、全米の知名度も高い。ビジネス、政治学工学、コンピュータなど、さまざまな分野で高い評価を得ている。インターンシップや海外留学プログラムも充実。カレッジパークは、この大学を中心として形成された学園都市で、ワシントンDCには30分ほどで出られる。そのため、政府との研究プロジェクトも多く行われている。日本の横田基地内（東京）にも分校がある。
