Juniata is in Huntingdon, a town of about 10,000 people located in the mountains of central Pennsylvania. Huntingdon offers a beautiful, friendly, safe environment in which to study, yet offers all the basic amenities a student needs, and allows international students the opportunity to experience life in a typical American small town. For excursions away from campus, most major east coast cities (and international airports) can be reached within several hours: Pittsburgh (2.5 hours), Washington DC (3), Baltimore (3), Philadelphia (4) and New York City (5). Central Pennsylvania is serviced by the State College Airport. Juniata provides transportation to/from the State College Airport for international students (45 minutes from campus). Additionally, AMTRAK trains service Huntingdon daily.

Juniata offers a challenging, yet supportive, environment for international students. Juniata allows students to design their own programs of study, often allowing students to combine two or more areas of interest. Each student at Juniata is given two faculty advisors to assist in their academic planning. Class size at Juniata average 20 students, so a personalized educational experience can be expected. In addition, Juniata offers over 100 clubs and activities, so students are expected to get involved in campus life. Yes, Juniata offers an Intensive English Program. Students can either enroll as full-time ESL students, or may study ESL while beginning their undergraduate degree study at Juniata. Continued ESL support is available to all degree-students. For applicants who do not meet Juniata’s TOEFL requirement, a conditional admission may be offered which allows students to begin their studies in the ESL program before continuing on for full-time study in the undergraduate program. Students must have at least an intermediate level of English to be admitted to Juniata’s Intensive English Program. No beginner’s courses are offered.

Admission requirements for International Students
Undergraduate applicants must submit the following: application for admission, official academic records (secondary school transcripts, plus university transcripts for transfer students), TOEFL results (or other English test), essay, letter of recommendation, proof of financial support (for student visa), and $30 application fee.

Juniata’s Center for International Education (CIE) provides support for all international students including full-time international student advisors, intensive English language support, academic and cultural orientation, arrangement of visits with local Friendship Families, airport transportation, assistance with visa procurement, obtaining medical insurance, housing, locating campus jobs, establishing local bank accounts, etc. The CIE also provides opportunities for social activities and on-campus cultural celebrations as well as arranging off-campus excursions for students.
